- pots or cups
- dirt
- herb seeds (or you can use grass)
- sticky foam face pieces (I found mine at Michaels in the kid craft section)
It was so nice to see the SUN and feel its warmth!!! We went to Spring Creek Park for a fun craft that will welcome the spring...a plant pal!!!! Supplies needed: The kids had a great time decorating their cups and planting their seeds (and even more fun playing and running outside)! We had a variety of seeds...cilantro, oregano and parsley. I thought they might be better than doing grass, because they can actually be used later for cooking! I know they will all be excited when their pal starts to grow!!!

Today my big bee turned 6!!!! I can't believe how fast she is growing up. I am enjoying this age and lots more fun to come! We had her birthday party at The Studio at Contempo in Boalsburg with her girlfriends. The Studio is a cute place...I will admit I am jealous! Its been a dream of mine to have some sort of crafting space for others to take classes and display/sell work of others. This is perfect! They had a great time making jewelry! Each child got a plate of tools, a chain, 2 earring wires and pendant wire for them to start making masterpieces of their own. Staci, the owner, was great to work with and was fabulous with the girls. To finish off the party we had pizza and cupcakes. These adorable princess cupcakes were done by Shannon's Creations. .. a ldskfj;alsdkjf;asdfa;lsdkf. . . . i. . adf adf I would highly recommend the Studio at Contempo for a birthday party or for one of their crafty classes they offer. Their calendar and artists' info can be found on their website, http://contempoartisanboutique.com/the-studio-at-contempo/. Get your craft on!
I know my kids aren't the only fans of the Disney Movie Frozen! They have been waiting patiently for us to own the movie (thankful for youtube and the soundtrack to get us through!). FINALLY the day has arrived. Last week I thought it would be lots of fun to do a Frozen Release Party for the girls. One afternoon of brainstorming then a trip to the store for some supplies and this is how it went down...(links for the ideas I used are listed at the bottom). I found some super cool glittery foam for Elsa's Crown/brown foam for antlers, a cute pack of felt & rhinestones for the barrettes and last but not least the fabric and ribbon for Elsa's cape...with glitter, lots and lots of glitter. Also on a quick trip to Wal-Mart passing by the girls section, they had cute blue tops on clearance for $3 and I couldn't resist. They received these PAR-TY invites along with their new shirt and 2 felt hair clips/headbands this morning. Excitement!!! I'm sure their teachers probably want to slap me getting them all excited and then going to school and having to wait all day. We all got home from work and school and got dinner ready. ![]() While dinner cooked we colored a Frozen coloring page. Dinner turned out great. I then gave them a special gift...Elsa's shiny, glittery cape (extreme happiness!). And no princess is complete without a crown. Aunt JJ and I got Sven's antlers! Evening bath with their Olaf towels (a Vday gift I made). And now for the main event, with snowballs and hot chocolate by our side! Sources for my ideas and other fun things!:
We seem to be in a season of new babies. Friends of ours are expecting any day! We had their other two children over for some play time. While the kids love to play, I knew they would also love a little project. I found these Crayola Fabric markers at Target I cut out large white squares for each of the kiddos. I used large masking tape to hold them on the table for them while they made their master pieces! After they were complete, I used the setting instructions on the back of the marker box to set the color into the fabric. I opted for the 4 minutes with the iron (just to be safe I sandwiched the square between to pieces of scrap fabric). Since I had cut the squares prior, there wasn't much trimming up I needed to do. I was going to purchase some ribbon for the tags....good thing I didn't, I had more than enough! I cut the ribbon into apx 4-inch sections, I had 6 different colors and decided to do 2 per side and leave the bottom clear (and that is also were I left opened for turning) . I found some flannel that I used for the backing, by some miracle they were already cut pretty close to the size I needed. I tacked the ribbons inward on the fabric (the picture side) with pins, added the back and stitched around starting at the bottom going to the side, top, down the next side and finishing on the bottom edge. Make sure to leave an opening to turn right side out. Turn right side out, fold the opening towards each and fold, stitch close the opening – I continued the stitch around the whole blankie. Here are the proud artist and their work. Makes a great keepsake gift for the new mommy-to-be!
While my oldest had a full week of Dr. Seuss activities at school I wanted to have some fun of our own. We kicked it off with our version of Green Eggs and Ham! Just added 4 drops of green food coloring to the eggs before I scrambled them. I thought the girls might not want to eat them, but they loved the fun breakfast. For dinner we had fruit Cat in the Hats. Made from Granny Smith, bananas and strawberries. After dinner and pjs we settled in for family movie night...Horton Hears A Who and of course no movie is complete without popcorn!
I think like most of us - we are ready for some SPRING weather. I am busy thinking of fun activities for the upcoming season...and came across a purchase I made last fall and never go around to using it (don't worry the caterpillars weren't included, It came with a coupon to redeem the caterpillars). ![]() Ours arrived yesterday!!! The girls were immediately obsessed with them. I found this super cute Life Cycle of a Butterfly booklet (available at teacherspayteachers.com for free with an account!) that the girls can use while we watch these caterpillars grow in to beautiful butterflies. I'll keep you posted on their progress...according to the girls they could tell they already got bigger this morning from last night!
I recall last year seeing a 40 bags in 40 day cleaning challenge (probably on Pinterest, heck I think I even pinned it to my Organizing board), but never quite got around to it. I don't know if its this winter that will not end or my house is being over ran with "stuff"...probably a little bit of both, but something needs to be done. SO I decided this is perfect, doing it little by little so not to get overwhelmed and give up. I decided to allot 20-30 minutes in the evening, if I only get a little bit done, that's fine, just as long as i keep it up. I started last night with the cabinets by our frig and microwave. They were filled with all sorts of kitchen items, many of which we never or rarely use. I actually now have EMPTY spaces in both! I was on a roll so I moved to the top of our frig (disaster!). My husband, who is 6'8" is always placing stuff on top and because well I'm much shorter than him, I never remove it. When it was all said and done I had 2 bags and a box, one bag for trash and the box and other bag for donation. Tonight I take on the girls book shelf and their stuff animals - Oh Vey! Check out this blog that includes some printables to stay on top of your game! http://www.whitehouseblackshutters.com/40-bags-in-40-days-2014/ Ah feels so good to clean out, organize and declutter!
This Sunday we decided to check out the FREE art classes at the Bellefonte Art Museum. The classes are taught by an artist from their artist registry. Make sure to take the kids out of their Sunday best, art can get a little messy!! This month's art class was styrofoam prints. The kids started off by sketching their design of pieces of fruit, then they redrew it on to a piece of styrofoam (you know all those left over containers you bring home? save the tops!). All it took was going over the drawing a few times with a pencil to get the design to stand out. Once they were all complete, they went to the painting area, painted each fruit and the background a different color and pressed it on paper. The staff and artist were extremely friendly and great at helping the kids finish their projects. Bellefonte Art Museum classes are held the first Sunday of every month from 1:00-3:30pm. |
