We are so close to summer break (yes like other schools in the area we still have a few days left). We got to enjoy a little bit of it on the deck while the kids ran a-muck! I only got a quick pic of the Buffalo pizza while I was making it...the kids were too hungry! Everything turned out great. I never made the flourless cheesy flatbread and I was pleasantly surprised, we added some of the buffalo chicken to the top.

Like most of you, my days and nights are filled with all things kid related. So I always welcome a LADIES NIGHT when I can fit it in, I have hosted a few at my place recently and decided I must make it a monthly thing. I always have fun planning food/drinks/activities, so I wanted to share!
Here is what we had for May - wish the rain would have held off so we could have been outside but at least it was warm! The Food:
The Drink(s): Dirty Arnold Palmer (adults) and Lemonade (kids)
I made cute mason jars for our adult beverage! I recently gotten into all things vinyl, I post about my business on my Bee Free Designs page!! This will be short and SWEET! We went strawberry picking yesterday at Way Fruit Farm! I am ashamed to say - all the years I have lived here and this was the first time we ever went and only the second time at Way's. Now I can't wait for their apple and pumpkin festival this fall!
The kiddos had a grand time looking for the perfect and odd shaped strawberries, but were easily distracted by the flowers and tall grass in the fields! I used some of our strawberries in my smoothie this morning...yummm! http://www.wayfruitfarm.com/ Last year we wanted to start a garden, so we could produce some nice fresh veggies over the summer....we failed! Our seedlings did great, but didn't work so well transplanting them outside. This year we are back at it, with hopefully more success. We are going to attempt starting from seeds again and if that fails - we will buy ones already started! Today we started our seeds. Check out the Target $1 bins for the little containers we used. We planted pumpkins, green peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, summer squash, watermelon and winter squash. I also found these cute little flower cups in the $1 bins at Target. We did some last year too, they are packaged so nicely with a compressed pellet of soil, add a tablespoon of warm water and poof! magic soil. After all that planting we decided to make a special treat for the birds. Bummer I forgot to grab a pic of the birds nest that was made in our watering can. The girls for the past few weeks have told me, "Mom there are sticks in there". I never took a look until this past week and yes lots of sticks in there. That bird is living snug in there. We haven't been able to see if there are any eggs in there but I am guessing there are. On to our treat. We covered empty toilet paper rolls with peanut better then rolled them in a bird seed mix. The girls each made two, we placed two of them on trees in the backyard and the other two we placed in the little bird feeder/bath that my big bee made at the Home Depot a few weeks ago with Daddy Bee. After dinner we ended the evening with a visit to the Penn State Arboretum and a trip to the Creamery. Check out some sneak peaks of what will be the NEW Childrens' Garden.
We are having a lazy Easter Sunday. I took my bees to the park to try out their new scooters. We had a small crash and decided to head back home early. (Just a brush burn, but those things can be down right nasty!) When we got home we decided to make Easter Bark, chocolate and marshmallows would make it all better! We used the recipe from Butter with a side of Bread. I didn't have any shortening so I used vegetable oil (about 1 1/2 tsp). Her tips on melting white chocolate are key! And of course the girls loved it! Now off for more fun outside!
I hope everyone had a great day! I have been thinking every which way to get out of coloring Easter eggs. I just foresee spills and broken eggs everywhere. I decided to go a nontraditional route and color paper eggs using chalk. I used sheets of card stock, Crayola chalk and used this egg template: Egg Template I used parts of a cardboard box to tape the eggs down too. It gave the kid something hard to color on and a background that I was ok with if it got dirty. They dipped the end of the chalk in water and colored away (surprisingly they went fairly easy on the water - about 5 dips, I think you could probably use a little bit more if you wanted). Allow them to dry and carefully peel off tape. Tada!!!
It was so nice to see the SUN and feel its warmth!!! We went to Spring Creek Park for a fun craft that will welcome the spring...a plant pal!!!! Supplies needed:
The kids had a great time decorating their cups and planting their seeds (and even more fun playing and running outside)! We had a variety of seeds...cilantro, oregano and parsley. I thought they might be better than doing grass, because they can actually be used later for cooking! I know they will all be excited when their pal starts to grow!!!
I think like most of us - we are ready for some SPRING weather. I am busy thinking of fun activities for the upcoming season...and came across a purchase I made last fall and never go around to using it (don't worry the caterpillars weren't included, It came with a coupon to redeem the caterpillars). ![]() Ours arrived yesterday!!! The girls were immediately obsessed with them. I found this super cute Life Cycle of a Butterfly booklet (available at teacherspayteachers.com for free with an account!) that the girls can use while we watch these caterpillars grow in to beautiful butterflies. I'll keep you posted on their progress...according to the girls they could tell they already got bigger this morning from last night!
